Its that time of year again! Isn't it amazing how quickly the year goes by and before you know it, Christmas is here again and all the manic, frenzied shopping that we love so much ;-) starts all over again! No thanks to the retailers who are bent on us spending every single penny on the Christmas "must have" items.
With so much to do, it's so easy to get caught up in all the drama of Christmas that you miss the essence of it. And I totally get it that in addition to all the presents you need to buy, you may not be looking forward to the family Christmas lunch with your uncle who never seems satisfied with your achievements and constantly ask about what you are up to next or the awkward conversation with your sister about when you are going to finally settle into a relationship.
As awkward or manic as your memories of Christmas may be, this year, make plans to experience Christmas differently. Do Christmas with intention and beauty. Here are two key points to keep close to heart:
Understand that your family and friends are a blessing. you don't just have family and friends, you GET to have family and friends and that is a blessing in itself and sometimes a change in perspective is all the oil you need to get the wheels spinning smoothly.
Every encounter is an opportunity to make memories and sometimes memories are all we get to keep. This point is so important to me; after losing my sister who was in her early thirties, memories are all I get to hold on to now and that is a well that will never run dry.
I'll never get to see her again but my memories of her is something no one can ever take from me. So as you get together for meals or simply spend time together this season, remember you can influence the experience so it's not just another manic Christmas, but one that will leave you enriched with a lot of memories to cherish.
To beauty and happy memories
