Like they say "success leaves clues" and I’m a believer. As I study successful people and what makes them tick, I find reoccurring success clues between them. I was really surprised by these. Here I was hoping to see very specific personal traits that are responsible for their success; instead I found similar characteristics between them which they attribute to their growth. Now hold on, here’s what I found really intriguing; the more I studied the more I realised that these “successful people” are exactly like everyone else. How is that possible? Come on!! I found that like us, successful people face the same kind of challenges we experience. They are faced with pressure and uncertainty, they experience hardship and pain. At one point, they had no money or contacts. People did not believe in them, they have bad days and they get tired. And here I was hoping that I’d find some magic or superhuman qualities that made them outstanding. Something genius that was peculiar to them, but much to my surprise there wasn’t. They share the same experiences as everyone else.
But here’s the distinction, here’s what I found distinguishes successful people from unsuccessful others – successful people would not be stopped. Inspite of challenges, pressure, uncertainty and whatever comes their way, the people who become successful are those who keep pressing on inspite of it all. They find opportunities in challenging situations. They refuse to stay in their comfort zone even when they are uncertain. They are focused and poised under pressure. They don’t give up even if nobody believes they can make it. They pick themselves up after a setback and keep going. They never give up! And that’s what makes them successful.
If you’re going to make it and join the ranks of successful people and become even more successful, you will need to step up your approach. Understand that the difference is not in what you experience but in how you turn that experience in your favour and how you keep going inspite of.
“Don't ever give up.
Don't ever give in.
Don't ever stop trying.
Don't ever sell out.
And if you find yourself succumbing to one of the above for a brief moment,
pick yourself up, brush yourself off, whisper a prayer, and start where you left off.
But never, ever, ever give up.”
