Just Do It!

Ask A Runner - 11
Now you know it’s possible to become whatever you set your heart to. The question is how? The motivational speaker, Les Brown said “don’t ask yourself how”, because when you do, your mind becomes operative; it goes to great lengths to tell you how your dream is not possible. It gives you “practical” (and sometimes true) reasons why you can’t live your dream or be your best. It says “you don’t come from a privileged background”, “you don’t have the right education”, “you have no contacts or anyone to help you”, “you have no money”, “how could you of all people become all that”, “nobody has ever done that”.

So when you want to start the journey of achieving your goals, don’t go to your mind to ask how. Just start! Ignore the rule of common sense. Ever heard of the phrase, “where there is a will, there is a way”.  Make that applicable to your situation. Do you want to start a business? Don’t focus on how this business idea is “out of your class” or how you will get finances. Just start! Start by learning all you can about the business you aspire to own, look within yourself to find resources that you already possess to help you advance your goal. You may already know somebody, who knows somebody, who knows somebody who runs a similar business. Get in touch with them and find out how they started. And if don’t know anyone, with substantial research done on the business, approach someone who already runs a similar business and talk to them. Most times, all we really need is to start with the small details and build on it.

In order to achieve success, you’ll need to have a picture of your end goal. What do you want to achieve? Have a clearly written vision about it. Then write out the steps you need to take to achieve it. Remember always start from where you are, with steps within your power. Instead of thinking of how you will get a loan or finances to get started, start from where you are, with the little details.

At 16, Sir Alan Michael Sugar dropped out of school and by 21 he registered Amstrad, a company he started by selling electronics out of a van. The company became a massive success and in 2007 he sold it for £125m. It probably didn’t look like much, selling electronics out of a van. But he started with what he had and then gained momentum. It's not about how you start a race, but how you finish. Just get started!

Have you had success starting something? I'd love to hear from you. Share this post to help others start something beautiful.
