The Awakening:
Can you hear that? It’s the sound of the awakening!! It’s time to start living intentionally!
So, your regular normal may look like this: getting yourself ready for work, working hard to make sure the mortgage is paid. Running errands, paying the bills and socialising with friends whenever you can make the time. But besides this picture, there are more unexplored parts of you that are yet to be given a voice fully if at all.
That qualification you’ve been wanting to pursue, the health goal that lives only in your mind but you’re yet to bring to life. Yes, yes! Absolutely 100% yes, you want to live life intentionally.
You plan to spend more time with your children, partner and parents. But so far, that’s a hope and a dream. All this while, there’s the part of you that really wants to live life intentionally. You want to show up more. You want to share your ideas and pursue those goals that procrastination has hijacked and you are tired of being drawn in 100 conflicting areas.

What people get wrong about how to live life with intention
Living life internationally is not having a dream and hoping one day to start living it
Living life intentionally is also not having a to do list and that you do nothing about.

What does it even mean to live life intentionally?
To live life intentionally means to pay attention to who you are, assessing your values and evaluating your priorities. To live life internationally means to bring consciousness and awareness to your decisions, your choices and priorities with the aim of creating a life that fulfils you. One that supports your dreams and values.

Looking at your to do list and the way you’ve been living for the past few years, this may feel like a really, really tall order and it may feel intimidating and scary to rearrange your life to support this new way of being. But little steps practiced regularly is the golden key that will see you reaping a harvest of a satisfying life.

How do you live life internationally?
I thought, you’d never ask? The beauty about finding out how to live life intentionally  is that all of your life’s experiences, your challenges, your triumphs, your pain, your failures and your story have all equipped you with what you need to create a plan which will help you start to live life intentionally.

As I mentioned earlier, the first step is to first bring attention to who you are. Who are you? Now that right there is a million-dollar question. If we stripped back all the layers, the different hats you wear and the labels. Who are you? What do you like, what are your values, what brings you the greatest satisfaction? What would you like to stop doing? What is your opinion on things?

One of the first steps in my coaching session with clients is to work with them to gain clarity on who they are. A rediscovery, return and in some cases a discovery of who they really are - finding their voice again. In this step, I want you to dig deep and explore those questions I asked to help you gain clarity or better clarity of who you are. Once you are clear on who you are, move on to the next step.
The second step to live life intentionally is to bring awareness to the different aspects of your life. Consciously evaluate an area of your life and make a note of what you’ll like this aspect of your life to look like. Do this for the different aspects of your life:

Your family, your health, your career, your finances, your daily routine, your family relationships, your social relationships etc. What would you like these aspects to look like? Would you like to be debt free? To live life intentionally, you’ll need to evaluate what steps you need to take to make it happen. Are you unsatisfied with your friendship circle and would you like instead to build a new community of supportive friends? If so, what steps do you need to take to make it happen.

When you evaluate the different aspects of your life, do so from this new found clarity of who you are? These changes will help you  live life intentionally.

The third step to live life intentionally is to be unapologetic about it. When you’ve completed the first 2 steps, set the boundaries and don’t apologise about it. This is important because whether it’s family, friends or co-workers, everyone has an opinion of who they think you are and should be. So, this new shift is likely to ruffle some feathers and make others uncomfortable.

Be clear on the actions you will start taking to live life intentionally, communicate them with the important others and maintain those boundaries in a way that allows you to continue to show up for your family and the people who matter. If for example your daily routine is something you want to be more enjoyable instead of the unfulfilling arrangement you have now, and the new habit you want to incorporate is going to bed an hour or two earlier to allow you time to be organised and centred in the morning before your day starts.

Having set this in place and your other half asks you to stay up as usual to watch a movie, lovingly communicate the changes you’re making and the benefit it will bring you and the family and maintain the boundary by going to bed as planned without apologising for it.

To recap the points above, the following are some of the steps to live life intentionally. This is not an exhaustive list but it will give you a great start to live life intentionally with the most important key being a clarified state of who you are and what you what you want:
  1. Bring attention to who you are. When the layers are stripped off, when the labels are no more, when you don’t wear the various hats you now do. Who are you?
  2. Bring awareness to the different aspects of your life that you want to change, one area at a time. What would you like this area to look like?
  3. Be unapologetic
Instead of simply living, why not make it a great life!
