I was reflecting today on women who have had to endure some really brutal past to become not just strong but pillars for others to lean on.
Some of these women have been through series of abusive relationships, been imprisoned, suffered the weight of shame and were constantly reminded from those with authority over them that they would not amount to anything.
Some of them have been told over and again that their business idea will not succeed. Others have dared to hope that one day their dreams will come true even though the odds were notoriously stacked against them.
It was 6.30pm Tuesday evening, I had decided to take Otonye (my 9yr old) swimming. We hadn't swam in a few few months so I decided we should do it today. I hadn't seen Otonye swim in a while and the last time I saw her swim she was all over the place.
Here's what you have to understand, Otonye had been for a number of swimming lessons and after it became painfully apparent that she was more interested in play swimming than actually learning to swim, I made the difficult decision to stop "wasting my money and pull her out".
We recently had a few days of heavy snowing in Kent where I lived. Driving conditions were challenging. I made an assessment of my route and felt I could manage to drive. On onward trip was less than ideal but nothing I couldn’t manage; however, I couldn’t say the same for my return trip.
On my way back, while coming down a hilly road, my car lost control and I skidded down the road. Hard as I tried, my tyres did not grip the road and my brakes became ineffective. And there I was in that moment of fear where nothing I could do or say would stop my car from the quick decent it had started on.
