Hey!! Life is too short, live your dreams. Follow your heart!
You know sometimes I wish the world is a huge city surrounded by high walls and I could stand at the watch tower with all my bling and a diva like horn shouting out the words above. Really, we don’t live long enough to live on someone’s terms.
From childhood, we have been accustomed to following instructions and asking for permission on what we can have or do; and while it’s essential sometimes to follow instructions and ask for permission, when it comes to decisions about our life choices, we don’t need to ask for permission. Life is too short to live out another person’s expectation for you.
So often, I hear people talk about following a career path because their parents believed it was the best for them, marrying a partner their family believed would make them happy or settling for less because they didn’t want to upset anyone.
Life is too short to play it safe. While am in no way suggesting irresponsible living, you cannot live your life hoping things will turn out ok, or trying to live up to someone’s expectation for you. You have to make your own choices, go after goals that bring you fulfilment, settle for nothing less than your preferred. So what if you fail? It’s all part of the process. It’s not just about the end result; it’s also about the journey, who you become in the process and what lessons you learn.
One thing Lady Gaga has thought us, is that it’s ok to follow our dreams. If she consulted with people (and maybe she did) about her ideas for music and her style; am sure everyone would have said it was crazy (and I have my personal opinion). They may say her music would not be received and that it would fail before it even began etc. However, today Gaga is a multi-millionaire with an outstanding loyal following of over twenty four million people. Follow your heart.
Don’t ask permission to live your dreams. If you’re at a point where you’re totally off course from what you really want to do, I believe you can still find your way back (I learnt of a lady who went back to school at 60yrs). You don’t necessarily have to drop everything you’re involved in right now to go after your dream, but you can start the process. It may mean putting aside a few hours everyday to accomplish a task that will start you heading in the direction of your dreams until you can eventually focus all your time into it.
My prayer and hope is that you will realise how much your life is truly worth, how much you can truly accomplishment and how much fulfilment you will find when you start dancing to your own beats.
